On Thursday, September 18, 2025, some of Bullock Creek Middle School's 8th grade PeerLIFT students attended the annual Kickoff Event at Bullock Creek High School. These students joined other middle school and high school PeerLIFT students around Midland County planning this year's themes and activities. The day was filled with a lot of energy, team-work and positivity. The goal of our PeerLIFT program is to educate students on mental health issues and promote a culture in our building and community where students feel safe and comfortable to ask for help.

💫 Big shoutout to two amazing boys from Ms. Murray’s class! 💫
They’ve been working so hard to grow as readers—and the best part is what great buddies they are along the way. 🤝 They cheer each other on and celebrate every win together.
Today, they both did an incredible job sharing their passages and even came to my office to read to me. Listening to them was the absolute highlight of my day! 📚💙
Way to go, readers!! Keep up the hard work—we are so proud of you! 👏👏

Mrs. Martin’s physics students measuring their reaction time with only a meter stick.

After reading the short story “Pancakes” by Joan Bauer, Mrs. Clare’s 3rd hour Honors English class took the lesson off the page. They whipped up their own pancakes—embracing the messy, imperfect fun (unlike Jill, our perfectionist protagonist). Literature tastes better with syrup!

Students in Mr. Wright's English 6 class are currently doing a novel study. Students are partner reading to create a strong and positive classroom culture while increasing student fluency and prosody.

🐢💚 The kids at BCEL made some tiny new friends today! During nature time, students had the chance to carefully handle and observe baby turtles up close. The excitement, curiosity, and gentle care they showed was priceless. What a special way to connect with nature! 🌿✨

The 4th graders at Pine River are kicking off Creek Week at the Chippewa Nature Center! This week, they’re exploring survival skills. Yesterday’s adventures included practicing compass skills and building different types of shelters like tarp shelters, debris huts, and lean-tos.

Floyd first graders are learning about plant parts and what plants need to grow. After drawing a picture of a plant with all of its parts, Mrs. Stevens' students planted bean seeds so they can observe the process of a seed turning into a sprout and then a plant.

We loved welcoming some members of Leadership Midland's Class of '25 to Floyd Elementary. They toured Floyd's nature areas and learned about our district -wide nature program.
Best of luck Leadership Midland's Class of 25!

Ms. Terrill and Mrs. Methner's classes have been learning about their senses in nature. They have also been enjoying time to play and explore.

Ms. Pretzer and Mrs. McGuire's classes enjoyed listening to books in nature today.

While exploring informational text structures in Bookworms, students in Mrs. Bradley's 5th grade class engaged with a variety of mentor texts—thanks to a generous grant aimed at increasing access to diverse literature in classrooms.

🎉 Happy Birthday to our beloved nature para extraordinaire, Mr. Schweigert! 🌿🦝
Our staff had the BEST time celebrating him today by dressing up as “Mr. Schweigert” himself — complete with beards, raccoon shirts, bandaid bags, and plenty of random trinkets passed out along the way.
We are so lucky to have you bringing your energy, humor, and heart to BCEL every day. 💚
We love you, Mr. Schweigert — happiest of birthdays to YOU! 🎂🎈

Students in Mr. Rutterbush's PE class are learning about the game of volleyball. After practicing how to pass, set and hit, students were given the opportunity to put them to good use.

Miss Hannah’s class kicked off their reading journey with Owen Foote, Money Man — their first book in the Bookworms program. The students had so much fun exploring the story, and one of the best parts was getting to work with Brett for the first time this year. What a great way to start their year of reading together!

Woohoo! Way to go, Floyd Cross Country runners! Today was a great start to the season!

Mrs. Methner's Young 5's students painted with a variety of mud samples today. What a creative group of students!

Mrs. Cassow's class enjoyed a hike and outdoor learning this week.

A huge thank you to Mrs. Dopp's and Mrs. Napoli's classes for working in our pollinator garden at BCEL.

Pine River students and even the turkeys are having a great time exploring the new playground equipment. It has quickly become a favorite spot for everyone.
