Ms. Sushynski led some Pine River 4th grade students on an open-ended hike during nature extension. They became interested with building a bridge and a scary house, until their efforts came to an end when they discovered a field mouse.

On Friday, October 24, 2025, at approximately 4 p.m., a bus will be parked and staged in the gravel parking lot area of the High School for a Midland County First Responder training exercise. The training itself will take place on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 10 a.m. and will focus on emergency response to a bus accident. Please be aware that this is only a training exercise. Depending on weather conditions, a FlightCare helicopter may also land in the area as part of the event. We ask that everyone avoid the area during the setup and training for safety reasons.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

A huge THANK YOU to the Studley Grange for their generous gift of dictionaries for every Pine River third grader! Our students are excited to put them to use as they grow their writing and spelling skills. They’re thrilled to have a dictionary of their very own to keep!

Pine River third grade scientists had a fantastic time at the Chippewa Nature Center! Students explored hands-on stations to deepen their understanding of animal classification, learning all about birds, amphibians, reptiles, mammals, and fish. It was an engaging day of discovery and fun in nature!

On October 17th, some of our 5th graders from Pine River, along with Ms. Monique, joined students from across Midland County for the Kindness Conference.

The BCMS robotics teams, iCreek and MicroCreek, did a great job presenting to our school board last night. They shared a little bit themselves as well as the task for their robots to perform in their upcoming competitions.

Consumers Energy visited the fourth-grade classrooms at Pine River Elementary today to teach students about energy. The kids learned how electricity is generated, explored renewable and nonrenewable energy sources, discussed safety around electricity, discovered how their bodies serve as conductors while other materials act as insulators, and learned ways to conserve energy. Each student received a home energy kit to help their family conserve energy. Thank you, Consumers Energy, for the informative and interactive lesson!

The Lancer Shield yearbook staff celebrates a successful ad sales campaign. The class raised a total of $11,770, which keeps the cost of the yearbook affordable for the student body.

🎨✨ Our kindergarten artists have been busy imagining, creating, and bringing sticks to life!
In art class, BCEL Kindergarten students explored how to use their imagination to see a stick as not just a stick — transforming it into something brand new through their creativity! They practiced using glue carefully, added their stick to their drawing, used multiple colors, and worked hard to color neatly and with purpose to turn their drawings into true works of art.
A big shoutout to our amazing art teacher, Mr. V, for inspiring our young creators and helping them see the world in new and colorful ways! 🖌️

Our 5th graders have been learning about wetlands, forests, and meadows. As part of a community project, they partnered with the Chippewa Nature Center to help protect native habitats by removing buckthorn, an invasive species.

After learning the rules of pickle ball and practicing their skills, students in Mr. Rutterbush's gym classes had the chance to participate in a gym class pickle ball tournament!

🌿 What an exciting day yesterday at BCEL! 🌿
Big equipment, hard-working crews, and lots of curious little eyes made for a big day of progress on our beautiful new landscaping — both out front and in our courtyard! The kids had an absolute blast watching all the machinery in action and seeing our space transform before their eyes. 🚜💚
We’re already loving the fresh new look and can’t wait to enjoy our courtyard once the grass grows in. A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this happen — what a true blessing for our school community! 🌼✨
