Yesterday was the first of our visits with our student-athletes from the high school. Mr. Freeland, our athletic director, arranged for some of our athletes to visit classrooms to read books on sportsmanship or assist in an activity. Our BCEL students loved their time with them. They were total superheroes in the eyes of our Little Lancers!! Thank you, Mr. Freeland and our BCHS athletes for visiting us!! We loved having you here!!

Abundant sunshine and unseasonably warm temperatures greeted the Pine River 4th graders each day of their Creek Week experience at the CNC. The children learned many new skills while participating in survival-themed lessons. Thank you to the incredible staff at the CNC for the warm welcome and for sharing your expertise with all of us.

Allison Rex, BCPR PTO Representative, presented the Luck of the Lancer award winner to Kate for correctly guessing the number of leprechaun hats that were hidden throughout Pine River Elementary. This indoor activity for St. Patrick's Day was in lieu of an outdoor scavenger hunt event put on by the BCPR PTO. Unfortunately, the Luck of the Lancer was not with our weather for the day of the event. Kate will receive a new bike and helmet!

Mr. Gusler's second graders spent some time learning about fossils. They made fossil molds with bread and gummy worms, let them sit overnight with a book on them (pressure and time) and peeled them apart the next day. They also "excavated" a chocolate cookie, separating the dirt from the artifacts (chocolate chips).

For Autism Acceptance month BCEL has been using the morning announcements to bring all the things we all have in common to the forefront. Whether you have Autism or not we all want to play, be accepted, be included, make friends, and be able to communicate! We want our Little Lancers to hear the different ways communication can occur. Last week our friend, Jonathon, used his communication device to help us with the pledge. This morning Ben used words with pictures to read the pledge to get our day started! Both helpers did an amazing job!!!
