Mrs. Napoli’s 2nd graders are bursting with excitement! They launched our pen pal program today! These kiddos will have the privilege of making new second grade friends in Phoenix, Arizona! This will be a wonderful opportunity to make a new friend, and learn more about the climate, plants, animals, and life in the southwestern region of the U.S. Added bonus, we’ll be learning some Spanish throughout our communications as this is the primary language of most of our pen pals. Look at their faces when first introduced to Mrs. Cervantes’ class! The excitement and joy warms my heart! Also, their introductory letters are amazing!

3rd graders at Floyd School are strengthening their number sense by using rekenreks to build and decompose numbers.

Floyd School's 5th grade classes are experiencing the process of tapping maple trees in our nature area. The students were tasked with identifying maple trees, properly drilling the holes and pounding the spiles in. We look forward to collecting the sap and experiencing the boiling process.

Ellie Cassow earned lunch with the principal today and when you earn lunch with the principal you eat dessert first!! Love my time with our Little Lancers!! Having lunch with Ellie was the highlight of my day!!

BCEL welcomed Kristin from the Midland County Home Builders Association today! Ms. Kristin read a story to Mrs. Dopp's second grade students and then did an activity with them out of a builders activity book. Each student will get to take home their activity book to enjoy. The HBA reps will be here for the next couple of weeks reading to each class in the building. We are so grateful for our community partnerships! A big thank you to the Midland County HBA!!

Today, BCMS Student Council spent the day celebrating our fabulous school counselor, Mrs. Jackie Fermoyle. To know Jackie, is to love her and she does so much for the students and staff here at BCMS. We are so thankful that she is ours! Thank you Mrs. Fermoyle for all that you do for us every single day!

BCEL loved our visit with Mr. Hale!! The kids love it when he stops in to see what we are learning, how we are growing, and all the wonderful things that are happening at our building! Early childhood students are so good at greeting people and making them feel welcomed! The kids loved his tie and told him he looked like a news anchor :) Great job making him feel so special Little Lancers!!

The home freshmen boys basketball game vs Ithaca at 4:00 on Tuesday, January 31st has been cancelled. The JV boys basketball game scheduled to begin at 5:30 followed by the varsity game will proceed as planned.

We know for a fact that our Mrs. Napoli is an "Extraordinary Educator" but we love it when others shout it from the roof tops! Mrs. Napoli you make an incredible difference each and every day to our school, our students and our families! Ms. Terrill and Ms. Heider's Young Five scientists experimented with pendulum painting to experience the affects of push and pull. Messy experiments are the best!!!

Mrs. Wood's 1st grade class at BCEL loved playing in the snow this morning! Finally!! Snow!! They were very proud to be the very first snowman out in our play area!! Our building is buzzing today with snowy excitement!!

Mrs. Dopp's 2nd grade scientists at BCEL have been exploring the states of matter. Today the class experimented with the state of gas. Scientists were given a bag, water, and Alka-Selter. Mrs. Dopp than had kids shake up their bag to see what would happen! The kids had a blast waiting for their bags to explode!!! Their giggly screeches were so fun!! Great job little scientists!

BCMS Student Council is hosting a Me & My Favorite Fella dance for our elementary school girls. Ms. Terrill's Little Lancers were having a blast at center time today! Ms. Terrill created a washer and drier for kids to interact with in the dramatic play area. The kids had such rich play with these new "toys". Play is so very important in early childhood...the most important part in fact! Play allows our young learners to learn how to enter and exit into play with each other, practice sharing, conflict resolution, engage in a heightened level of vocabulary, and just plain enjoy each other! Play is the work of our littles! Great job little explorers! Your work is so very important!

Congrats to Josiah, Marcy, and Madisyn who performed in the Grove All Star Band directed by professor Andrew Rathbun from WMU this Saturday!
