Mrs. Johnson’s 6th grade Social Studies classes are learning about different systems of government! Friday they worked in groups to build a straw tower, but there was a catch - each group had to follow a type of leadership and rules to represent a form of government. The students learned the pros and cons of each, and why some systems are more successful than others.

BCMS Student Council couldn’t let School Counselor Appreciation Week go by without showing our appreciation to Mrs. Jackie Fermoyle. Mrs. Fermoyle is the heart of BCMS. She oversees our Peer 2 Peer program, our state testing, and handles every high and low that can come with the tough middle school years. Mrs. Fermoyle is every student’s loudest cheerleader and greatest ally. We would be lost without her! Happy School Counselor Appreciation Week, Mrs. Fermoyle!

Congratulations to these BCMS students! They were nominated by their peers as Hallway Heroes. A Hallway Hero is someone who exemplifies the qualities of good leadership throughout the school. We are so proud of this group and look forward to aging to it in the coming months.

Today Mrs. Johnson’s 6th grade Social Studies classes learned about international economic interdependence. Groups of students represented different countries making bids to produce pencils for the United States. They found the best routes to get the materials (wood, graphite, paint, aluminum, and rubber) to their country for production and then back to the United States. They were surprised to discover that it takes the cooperation of so many different nations to make the pencils they use every day in school. Our tools for note-taking are truly a global effort!

This week, 6th, 7th and 8th grade art students created miniature gingerbread houses. They sketched designs based on donated supplies then built their house around a recycled milk carton. Finally, they decorated their festive houses (and ate a few treats along they way)!

Bullock Creek Middle School Spreads Holiday Cheer! BCMS Student Council completed their annual community service project this week. Students delivered holiday gift baskets to MidMichigan Medical Center on Thursday to show their thanks and appreciation for their hard work taking care of our community. Students filled the baskets with energizing snacks and homemade ornaments for the nurses, doctors and hospital staff. They had a wonderful time spreading holiday cheer to well deserving people at the hospital!

Congratulations to Gerard Wauldron! He was awarded a grant from the Longuski-Carter branch of Meemic Insurance. The plan for these funds is to provide two media outlets within Bullock Creek Middle School to display announcements and other things throughout the day.

The BCMS Peer 2 Peer group organized a week of gratitude for our school. The theme of the week was “Attitude of Gratitude”. The students celebrated gratitude week by filling out fall leaves of things for which they were thankful. These leaves were used to decorate our Tree of Thankfulness which is displayed in our Care Center. Students were also able to participate in a Gratitude Station at lunch where students and staff could fill out thank you cards for someone special in their lives. BCMS will be delivering over 200 thank you notes to special people. Students also watched videos in AC related to gratitude and thankfulness and had classroom discussions.
