On Thursday, January 12th, we hosted a Reality Store at Bullock Creek Middle School. Bullock Creek Middle School in conjunction with Midland County’s ESA Career and Technical Education joined forces to bring the Reality Store to our 8th graders. This year, the Reality Store is a culminating activity for our Six week Career Pathway Adventures series where students learned about careers in all of the six Career Pathways. In the Reality Store, students envision what their lives will be like when they’re in their mid-20-30’s … what jobs they’ll have, if they are single or married, etc. They were given a “checkbook” with a deposit equal to one month’s salary in their chosen occupation. Students visited booths manned by local community members at which they payed their monthly bills. At each booth, students made decisions about the standard of living they’ll assume. As they went from booth to booth in the store, they began to see reality take shape. In their classrooms following the Reality Store, students will discuss the impact of the educational choices they make today on their ability to enter various occupations and support various standards of living in their future. As always, we are thankful to Midland County’s ESA Career and Technical Education for helping us bring this valuable experience to our 8th graders. Also, a huge thankful to all community members who gave up their time to volunteer and work our Reality Store. Without them, we could never achieve this.

BCMS has been busy collecting and sorting donations for the annual Food Drive! So far the students have donated almost 1,000 items! The Food Drive is also a friendly competition between grades and classroom AC's. This coming week is DOUBLE POINTS week! Each grade has a specific list of items that we still need to thoroughly stock our community baskets. Items on those lists will be worth double points for the week of 10/31-11/4. BRING IT ON BCMS.
