Congratulations to Deneal Johnson, an elementary school teacher at Pine River Elementary School in the Bullock Creek School District, on receiving this year’s Harold W. Peterson award from SVSU’s College of Education. James Tarr, current dean of the College of Education, presented the award to Deneal. Kayleen Kindy, an SVSU elementary education major and student teacher at Pine River, nominated Johnson in recognition of her 24-year career as an educator. The award is named for Harold W. Peterson, who served as dean from 1968-1982; it was established in 1985 honoring elementary or secondary school teachers in Bay Midland, Saginaw, and Tuscola counties. The award includes $500 for the recipient and another $500 to support programs at the recipient's school.
