BCHS Educational Careers Students

“There’s no such thing as bad weather-only the wrong clothes.”   Billy Connolly

Some may disagree with this, but in our nature programs we have definitely found this to be true.  Our K-2 students not only go out daily for recess, but for an additional time in nature as well.  Having warm weather gear is an important aspect in keeping our students comfortable and ready to learn and explore in nature.

For a variety of reasons, some students do not come to school with clothes appropriate for the weather.  After discussing the impact of improper clothing on learning and the many reasons students might be unprepared for the weather, the Educational Careers class at Bullock Creek High School initiated the winter clothing drive as a solution.  The team of students, lead by Sydney Borsenik, Vivian Freeland, and Grace Stern, approached local businesses and churches and asked if they would be willing to allow them to place donation boxes at their sites. The class then placed the boxes, advertised, collected overflowing boxes after the end date of the clothing drive, washed and sorted the items, and delivered them to the nature programs.

Our students and teachers are grateful for the support from the Educational Careers students as well as our generous community that donated items.  As a result of this generosity, we will be able to distribute items to students in need as well as have warm clothing for students that come to school unprepared for the weather.
